I have to thank my twin sister Biz for giving me the idea of making my own salsa. Although I didn’t try it for a long time because I never thought it would turn out right. But, it can’t be easier, and cheaper to make a big batch of it. Look for tomatoes that are on sale or the dollar rack at your store. I scored 6 big tomatoes for only 99 cents.
Jenn’s red salsa
6 tomatoes (med-large)
5 cloves of garlic
1/2 white onion
1 poblano pepper
salt to taste
2-3 TB. cilantro
In a big skillet, throw all the veggies (not the cilantro yet) in without any oil. (Keep the paper on the garlic when you are roasting it so it doesn’t get bitter). After it’s browned on all sides, remove the paper from the garlic, take the seeds/stem out of the poblano pepper and throw everything in a blender (add the cilantro now) and blend until smooth. That’s it! Then refrigerate until ready to serve. This made a whole blender full of salsa for less than $3.00 in ingredients!

Hi Jenn! I’ve been slowly making the rounds to tell everyone about my good fortune that didn’t already know. Thanks a lot for voting and for blogging about it!!
One thing though…I’ve only lost 115 and not 150lbs.
I didn’t know about Biz’s contest so thanks for that. I’ll go vote now!
John, I just fixed the weight loss number! Sorry about that!
I’ve been wanting to make homemade salsa for forever! I don’t know what’s stopping me…
I love this homemade salsa recipe! We also tried totally homemade spaghetti sauce this summer, but it is not hardly worth the trouble.
I was just telling my husband yesterday that I’ve been craving some baked tortilla chips and salsa. 🙂 Thanks for the recipes, and thanks for visiting my blog!
copied and pasted – thanks! This really sounds great and you can’t beat the price!
Great recipe, homemade salsa is is and amazingly good. I have several raw recipes either in the blender of food processor that are fun to modify and dump on top of salads.
Homemade is always better in my opinion! I’m that way with hummus and bread now…just can’t go back to storebought!
