I have been reading about this book through Men’s Health on-line. (www.menshealth.com) and this book was written by the Editor in Chief of Men’s Health magazine. Basically, his approach is a non-diet way of looking at food, and knowing what the right choices are when you are faced with a decision of two dishes that you think look the same, but can have a huge difference in your weight loss efforts if you know which one to pick. Knowing which one is the better choice can not only save you hundreds of calories a day, but lots of fat calories too.
The book discusses eating out at restaurants, best coffee choices, supermarket foods, holiday food swaps, etc… On their website, I learned a lot of valuable information! Here are a few good examples:
McDonald’s Egg Mc Muffin vs. Starbucks Egg Breakfast Sandwhich
300 calories, 12 grams fat vs. 460 calories and 25 grams fat
Jimmy John’s
Turkey Breast slim sub vs. Turkey Tom
426 calories, 2 grams fat vs. 555 calories and 26 g fat
Au bon Pain
Thai peanut wrap vs. Turkey & Swiss Sandwhich
630 calories, 6 fat vs. 850 calories, 41 g. fat
Outback Steakhouse
Prime Minister Prime Rib w/ fresh veggies and sweet potato vs. Ayers Rock Strip Steak
730 calories, 39 g fat vs. 1,450 calories, 65 g fat!
McDonald’s Premium Breast Chicken Strips vs. 6 piece McNuggets
850 calories, 55 grams fat vs. 278 calories, 17.5 grams fat
The calories that are hidden in restaurants can be staggaring. You think you are making a good choice, such as the turkey sandwhich from Au Bon Pain, but did you think that could possibly be 850 calories and 41 grams of fat? No way! I’m trying to educate myself on the best food choices possible. In doing so, not only can you make better choices, but lose some pounds along the way!
