Exercise!!!
Exercise is a funny thing. We all know that exercising can help our weight
loss efforts go faster, but why is it so hard to get you’re a** in gear and do it!!
That has always been my dilemma. Either I eat great, and don’t exercise, or
exercise and don’t eat great. Putting the two pieces together has always been
a challenge for me. I actually trained and ran two Chicago Marathons and a half
Marathon with Team in Training and didn’t lose any weight! Do you know why??
Because in my head I was thinking, “I just ran 10 miles, and I can eat whatever I want!” or “I need to carbo load for the long run this weekend, so I can have two huge servings of pasta.” One thing I am finding out this time around trying
to lose weight is that I DO like to exercise! And the other thing I realized
about myself is I like GROUP EXERCISE! I’ve been a member of the local Y by my
house for about 8 years now. Now, with any membership, I either go for a while,
then don’t go for a long while, and that’s when you realize that when you
do go it cost you $200.00 because that’s how much you paid without stepping
one foot in the door! A few weeks ago, two girls from office (Nicole and Lisa) just
joined the Y too. They said they had taken an aerobics class on Thursday nights,
and I should come. Two thoughts popped in my head. 1). It’s from 7:00 – 8:00 and
being a Mom of three who works full time, I felt guilty taking time away from my kids and husband when we don’t get enough time as it is. 2). I’ll have to figure out about dinner for my family, maybe I can make a casserole for dinner (not that my hubby doesn’t know how to cook, but he works long hours and I wanted to make it easy for everyone). But I thought I would give it a whirl anyway. And you know what? I loved it! It was super hard, but going with friends and following the teacher doing exercises I’ve never even thought of was awesome. I went again last night and not only did I do the hour class, I actually rode my bike there!! (A mile each way). Finally, I am doing what I have dreamed about for so long. Eating healthier, getting exercise, being more active and I can see the results paying off. I am wearing jeans today that only 4 months ago, I could barely get over my hips, let alone button, and now not only can I get them on, and button them without lying on the bed (you know you’ve been there!) they are getting a little loose! So, my point is, if you haven’t gotten to the point of exercise, try something that you think would be fun, like playing tennis, rollerblading, playing soccer, riding your bike or whatever makes you happy, and including family and friends when you do that is even better. When I was riding my bike home last night after my work out I was HAPPY!!!! JJ
