A co-worker of mine brought me something to work yesterday. It’s friendship bread. Has anyone gotten this before??
I opened up the tupperware to find this bag dated 4/3/09. She told me it was a starter…a what?? I took the instructions out of the container
Apparently people pass the “starter” on to friends. I’m kind of nervous because its 10 day process. You apparently let it sit out on your counter for the first few days. On day 6, you “feed” the starter by adding flour, sugar and milk, followed by mushing the bag every day until day 10 when you can actually make the bread!
I’m a little nervous, because I can barely keep a plant alive, but I am determined to see this thing through! When its time to bake the bread, you separate it into 4 sections, save 1 to give to someone else, and bake the rest. Luckily I got it on day 5, so today I have to feed it!!
So, yesterday at work we had tons of food around. It was birthday breakfast, so donuts, muffins, pastries galore. I did not go crazy, I only had 2 small squares of banana bread! There was also a luncheon, so there were tons of leftovers from that too. I brought some home, which included onion rings!
So, its all about balance right? :0) I had a lemon pepper chicken breast, carrots, strawberries, fat free ranch dressing, and the onion rings. Do you know the best part?? I ate everything else first, and only had 1 onion ring because I was full! Wahoo!! And, I told myself the kitchen was closed after dinner, so I didn’t have anything else the rest of the evening!
I’ve gotten friendship bread before, and once you bake it, its DELICIOUS!!!
I’ve gotten it before too! but I must have done something wrong, because it started smelling way TOO awful and I had to toss it. so sad.
Bravo on the self control.
Whoa, I have never heard of it before, but it sounds interesting!
Ever since I began making me own bread, I’ve been getting the WORST craving for Friendship bread!
How interesting, I’ve never heard of this! Good luck with it, I’m sure you’ll do fine 😉
Fat free ranch dressing has to be the best invention ever, no?
Hmm.. never heard of Friendship bread – seems foreign to me! I’ll have to google to read up more on it.
Very admirable on the self control! And thanks for the sweet comment on Emma’s Tiny Treats–please let me know how your kids do….

ive heard of but never done a friendship bread before. love it though!!!
Friendship bread is good, but not as good as friendship cheeseburgers.
My mom loves friendship bread so I make a few loafs for her every Christmas. My family adores the bread, but I don’t like it so much.
I’ve had this and it’s delcious!
It’s an undertaking, but so worth it!
