I never thought in a million years I would try Hemp milk! I didn’t even know it existed until a few months ago. What is Hemp milk? It’s a non-dairy product that comes from the Hemp seed. I started reading about it and it turns out that Hemp seeds is a super food, meaning it has a ton of benefits for your body. For example, it contains all the 10 essential amino acids that are needed in the human diet. It also contains essential fatty acids (EFA’s like Omega 3’s and Omega 6’s) which help with digestion, your complexion and it helps lower your cholesterol. Hemp milk is also good for people who are lactose intolerant, or sensitive to soy products, as well as people with tree and nut allergies.
So, I used it this morning on my cereal. One suggestion is to shake the carton well before pouring. I had Optimum Slim cereal for breakfast, and with a banana and hemp milk, I can’t think of something more nutritious to eat for breakfast!
I actually liked the taste of it. It’s a little sweeter than milk, but very yummy. I am going to try to make a milk shake out of it tomorrow using 1 cup hemp milk, 1/2 cup fat free ice-cream and a frozen banana. I think it will be good! You could also replace milk in recipes with hemp milk such as muffins, cakes, pancakes etc…
For more information, I would recommend going to this site Manitoba Harvest which makes hemp milk and other related products. It describes more in detail all of the scientific health benefits of hemp products like hemp milk. You can find hemp milk at Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, or it may be at your local grocery or health food store.
It’s kind of fun to try something new that’s good for you too!
