For those of you who have been following my blog closely, I really wanted to do great this Holiday starting with Halloween and going through the new year. Not only did I not want to eat like a huge pig, but I wanted to actually LOSE weight instead of gain over the Holiday season.
I did awesome on Halloween, had no candy, upped my veggie and fruit intake and lost 5 pounds! Yesterday was the 2nd test and I passed with FLYING COLORS!
It was my offices annual Turkey Pot Luck. Everyone brings a dish, we grill out, some people play tag football, some people play poker, its ALOT of fun. But considering 60 people are bringing something to eat, its also a TON of food!
It was a gorgeous day for grilling. Low 50’s and sunny! We set up grills in the parking lot next to my office.
We set up in the lobby of my building. It’s nice and sunny and there is enough room to set up the tables.
A few people chipped in and bought a TURKDCUCKEN. It’s a partially de-boned turkey, stuffed with a de-boned duck, and a de-boned chicken! And, it had stuffing inside too!
I thought it was funny that next to that, someone brought a 6 pack of Hamm’s bear with Ritz crackers and cheeze whiz!
Here are my meatballs. I used Jennie-0 turkey meatballs that were frozen. They turned out great, and not a meatball was left!
Another one of my favorites, and I only had 1 this year. Bacon wrapped dates!
The burgers looked amazing!
And more meat! Pork and brats!
Some of my girl friends at work!
People dishing up
And of course, the dessert table!!!
So, how did I survive this years feast??
Before the event, I wrote down my goals. I wanted to choose wisely, no seconds and try to pick the healthiest things I could.
I waited. The old me would have been first in line, but not the new me. I waited until everyone had dished up. It’s not like all the food would have been gone, so I was able to take my time going through the line and not feel like I was rushed.
I hit the veggie tray first. I loaded up on carrots and sugar snap peas. Someone also made a great salad, so I had that. I took 1 short rib, and a diet coke and that was it!
I enjoyed the company, it took me a while to eat the veggies, so I was still eating when everyone else was, and I was not hungry afterwards, so that was great.
As far as the desserts go, I just stayed out of the conference room. I knew they were there, but I had made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t have it.
Besides, it was Party Pizza Friday in my house last night, and I knew I was going to have pizza, so it made not eating desserts easier!
It was a great day and I was in control!
Wow! You did amazing! Great job!
Whoa awesome! I would have been in the mindset to enjoy it “just this once” and gotten out of hand. I’m glad you stayed w/ your goals, that’s really something to be proud of!
I’ve never had turducken, but it sounds funny. I saw somebody make it on DDD the other day, I didn’t realize it was so tedious w/ all of the deboning. He also had to cook it for 13 hours!!!
What a fantastic job! A true success.
Woooo hooooo – GREAT JOB!
Wow – I am impressed! You did excellent, Jenn!!!
Great job!!! That’s what it’s all about: enjoying life and having a great time without all the food… Awesome!
OMG how did you do it…you are amazing.
Wow – you are SUCH a stronger person than me. It’s like I feel like I deserve it – so misguided! Good for you for thinking ahead, planning ahead and staying in control!
congrats on doing so well! you are truly inspirational! I tried to go without halloween candy too, but it didn’t quite work out =(
