When I went to the store last weekend, I found in the freezer section all sorts of flavors of Goya Brand Fruit Pulps. Flavors like papaya, pineapple, passion fruit, etc… For each 1/2 cup its only 39 calories. So I picked up the passion fruit and decided to make a fantastic smoothie with it:
Ingredients for 1
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup passion fruit pulp
7 baby carrots
3/4 cup frozen raspberries
1/2 cup frozen pineapple
Blend until smooth. It was like drinking sunshine it was so awesome!
AND, the calories weren’t that bad either!!
I never would have guessed that high of fiber. It’s 15 grams in one smoothie! That’s about half of the recommended fiber for the day. Sweet!
Dave, you’ll have to try this since you are living in paradise now!!!
Has anyone else tried these fruit pulps??
Wow, haven’t seen these! I’ve been buying the regular frozen fruit (strawberries, peaches, mango chunks) and make my smoothie at night (saw the tip on Alton Brown). Then it’s all ready in the morning and the frozen fruits have thawed in the fridge overnight and blend a lot easier!
Never heard of these but will definitely look for them…also never would have thought about adding carrots to a smoothie! You come up with the most interesting combinations, Jenn!
Shelley, the best thing about adding the carrots, is you can’t even taste them in there, it just blends in with the other fruit. It’s so good!
Never have seen these, but will be looking for them the next time I go grocery shopping! Great addition to a yummy smoothie.
At what store did you find these, Jenn?
Hi Deb!! I bought these at Tony’s in North Riverside, they were in a freezer case that’s on the floor, right by the frozen pancakes and waffles, and they were cheap too! I want to say each pack was like $1.29
I’ve never seen these…but I do have a bag of frozen fruit in my freezer, just waiting to be made into a smoothie.
PS – I tagged you on my blog today!
That’s so convenient. Haven’t seen them in the mainstream grocery stores near here, but maybe they’ll be in one of the smaller, neighborhood markets.
I do indeed need to try this. Right now, no blender, but it is on the list for when we get permanent digs (hopefully in about a week or two). And then i will be smoothie crazy!
Sounds delicious! I haven’t seen the fruit pulps yet… Have to look for them and finally make a smoothie! 🙂
Thanks Jenn. I thought maybe that’s where you got them. Love Super Tony’s! I will def looking for these.
Never seen them before, but I’ll keep my eyes open. What kind of blender do you have? I think mine would die if I tried to blend carrots.
Dang, that is really cool and convenient! I’ve never seen them…would love to try them, though not really in a smoothie…
