If you have never tried this before, I am warning you….DON’T! My oldest son went to a friends house and when he came back he said he had tried Nutella and it was fantastic and please, please, please can I get some the next time I go to the store. Now, I have heard of Nutella, I knew it was some kind of hazelnut/chocolate spread, but obviously since I am in weight loss mode, I don’t usually pick these kinds of things up so they can start talking to me from the kitchen at 10:30 at night for me to come eat it! It must have been fate, because I went to a smaller local Fair Share store by my house to get a few things, and what is at the register? Jars and Jars of Nutella! My son said “Please???” It was only $1.99, so I reluctantly put it in my cart. We brought it home, and he immediately wanted me to try it. When he opened up the jar it looked like the consistency of peanut butter, but instead it is chocolate. I took a small spoon and ate some. It is fantastic! Now two tablespoons are 190 calories, and I don’t really have room for this in my healthy eating plan. So, we put it away, and I went on about my business. The next day, when my son asked if he could have a snack, I said sure, and he came back with a small dish of the Nutella and a dish of pretzels, and he is scooping up the marvelous chocolaty Nutella with the pretzels. “Can I try one?” And, let me just say, the combo is pretty awesome! All I could think of was that now this jar is in my house, and I know what to do with it! To make matters worse, my other son did the same thing, but instead of pretzels, he made little graham cracker sandwiches with the Nutella oozing out the sides! So, of course, I had to try that too! And, it was pretty much just as wonderful as the pretzel experiment… So, I just want to warn you, if you are ever in the grocery store, and you see Nutella and you don’t feel like piling on hundreds more calories you don’t need….just walk away, just walk away!
Same thing happened to Rachel: had some at a friends house then wanted us to buy it. Happily, the infatuation didn’t last.
And I never had any!
Oh Jennifer….Bree has been eating this for years but thankfully I am not as fond of it as she is. She still takes it in her lunch. I know it’s surprising that I don’t love it (since it’s chocolate) but so far I have been able to steer clear. I am NOT going to try the pretzels dipped in it though — that sounds like it could be really good!
When we were younger my brother had it at a friend’s house, but never convinced my mom to buy it.
I’ve had it in crepes out at restaurants and it was to die for, but have never bought it myself. I always thought it was meant to be an ingredient for something I’d never be motivated enough to make at home (like crepes) so it never crossed my mind to purchase it.
