I decided to do some of my grocery shopping this week at Trader Joe’s. They just opened one up in my town last fall. Before that I would drive about 25 minutes to get to one. The funny thing is I waited 2 years for it to come here and I’ve only been there like 3 times! I still mainly do most of my shopping at Aldi just to save money, but its nice to go to Trader Joe’s to accessorize my dinners.
The kids came with me, and even though it was June 6th, it was in the mid-50’s yesterday in Chicago and WINDY! We were so cold! I didn’t want to grill out, so my oldest son had the idea of stir fry and we went with that!
If you haven’t gotten their vegetarian pot stickers, you must! You get 8 huge pot stickers for only 230 calories.
This is what they look like cooked. You just put them in a skillet with a little water to steam them. Then when the water is gone, just add a little oil and brown them up!
We also picked up a box of these. Chicken stix! For 2 stix its only 100 calories.
I was happy to find one of my favorite stir fry sauces. Saigon Sizzle. For those of you who are local, you can find this brand called “House of Tsang at Jewel or Dominicks grocery stores. They have these flavors which I also love: Thai Peanut, Classic Stir Fry Sauce, Spicy Szechuan, etc…
So for the stir fry:
I had green beans, shredded carrots, garlic, sugar snap peas, broccoli slaw, cauliflower, red onion, edamame, and chicken.
It was so good! I had 4 pot stickers, 2 chicken stix, the stir fry with a few peanuts chopped on top! It took me forever to eat it all! I love stir fry nights!
What are your favorite things to get at Trader Joe’s??
This is my favorite kind of meal! I love making Asian food (my favorite cuisine) healthy and filling. I haven’t tried those TJ’s products so I’ll lookout for them when I can shop at one again! 🙂
Those potstickers are some of my favorites! I love them! The szechwan sauce is fab too, its in my fridge right now!
What a pretty stirfry with all those veggies! I love almost everything at TJs… 🙂
Alright, you’ve convinced me to pick the pot stickers up next time I’m there 😉
I love way too much from TJs!! I haven’t been disappointed yet!
This entire meal looks great! I LOVE potstickers, but have yet to try Trader Joe’s. Thanks for letting me know about them.
I love getting their sunflower seed butter. Mmm mmm
I LOOOVE pot stickers. Seriously, I can eat a whole bag. Like, literally. A WHOLE bag. 🙂
That meal looks great!! I love Trader Joe’s as well; there isn’t one close so when I go I really stock up!! Now I’m gonna have to look for the stuff you posted!!!
Your dinner looks awesome.
I so miss Trader Joe’s – my Dad always shopped there…since we were really young. I loved when he let us get a piece of the giant chunk ghiradelli chocolate they used to sell. He still frequents the place for their fine, under-5-bucks-a-bottle wines.
Its too hard to pick my favorite thing there – but their snacky foods like the cookies, chips, crackers, dried fruits are what I go for. I used to eat their prepared bbq chicken salad nearly 5 days a week…there was a TJ’s right by my work.
Oh wow looks awesome……..love that filling….
what a great dinner! I love all things Trader Joes!
TJ favorites- their peanut butter, samosas, pot stickers, mini pizzas, frozen garlic cubes, fresh salsa, 5 layer dips, hand made tortillas, pierogis, frozen roasted corn, any frozen dessert…Love lots of their things.
That is one tasty looking stir fry!
Oh we love a trip to TJs. You can lose a lot of time checking out the digs. Great meal though!
I like Trader Joes too. It seems that some people prefer Whole Foods and some like Trader Joes. Not sure what the difference is in price and quality. I like both!
The stir fry looks great!
I like so many things at Trader Joe’s… I think it’s really convenient to have some of their frozen food items around. I especially like the mushroom turnovers and the gnocchi in tomato sauce; paired with a salad, they make great “emergency meals.”
Just got back from Trader Joe’s — got the stuff to make stir-fry (thanks for the recipe!). I also got the pot stickers…you made me so hungry for all that. I forgot to get the gnocchi that Andrea mentioned — I wanted to try that. Next time. I am so happy to have our TJ here although the one in LaGrange is so much bigger I think.
i love those potstickers! i might have some tonight actually. i think mine are a wee bit freezer burned LOL but hopefully will still taste good!
tj has so many good things, i cant begin to think of them all! some of my favorites are vegetarian egg rolls, chile lime chicken burgers and tomato & basil hummus. YUM!
